Condolence & Memory Journal

Dear Marie, Bob and family,
I just learned of Joe's passing. I was so saddened. That explains my lack of titillating emails. Sandy and I will miss him, not only from his regular appointments but also from his drop-ins after a visit to dermatology up the hall where he acquired some bizarre head bandage. I also suspect he will be missed by a couple of young ladies in New Orleans. The Pats and Sox have lost a great fan. (Who gets the jacket?).

Dear Marie and Family, I work at North Bridge Podiatry Group, Dr. Catalano's Office. I met Joe several years ago and knew immediately he was someone I was going love getting to know...and I did, we all did. Just wanted let you all know how much we miss seeing Joe's smile and we miss our talks about the Red Sox, Patriots, New Orleans and life. Personally, Joe was just a breath of fresh air and just made me happy. Especially at this time of year I just wanted to let you all know we're thinking of you.

Marie and family,

So sorry to hear the news of Joe's passing. Please accept our condolences. Joe had passion and energy for life that was contagious. He was, in many ways, larger than life. We are all blessed to have known him. We so much appreciate the amazing Somerville friendships that have endured for all these years, and the love and support that you all share.

I'm pretty sure that if heaven didn't have one before, there's a non stop tailgate party that's just getting cranked up.

Marie and All the family,
My heart is truly saddened to hear this news. Although if it was his time and he was ready, the Lord is kind in bringing him into the fold. I will always remember Joe for wanting to be like him, accepting and loving of everyone, joking, poking fun, but enjoying life so much. All of you were so amazingly great to him and he always knew how much he was loved. Hugs to all of you, I could go on for awhile. Love ya.

Dear Marie and Children,
I do not even know where to begin. I have thought of a million memories and all of them remain precious. I remember how "Mr. Rausa" would incite both excitement and awe in the tiny little heart of my youth. We learned about respect, we learned about loyalty and we learned about love from Joe. He never faltered in his dedication to my family. How could a father of 6 take on 8 more? Well, he did. I never questioned that fact until I had my own kids and find myself running ragged as my Mom would say. This is also a testimony to Marie and her faith in his goodness. Joe would tease me and say "hey Bets" in that growl of his. I shall miss not hearing him again. One of my last memories is of his visit to my Mom as she lay dying. Joe was brave and brought a final smile to her face. She knew as we all did that the party was about to begin when Joe showed up. The Rausa family helped the Scott family through many holidays and our lives were forever changed because of this open- hearted family. I am with you all as you laugh and cry and remember the man who taught us all so much. God Bless. Elizabeth aka Betsy

To all the Rausa Family, so very sorry for your loss. I will always remember your Dad's good advice, when we girls were headed out the door; "go together, stay together, come home together." Thank you Joe for always looking out for us.

Very saddened to hear about the passing of "Smokin Joe". Nothing like sitting and having a cold one with the man. He took me to numerous Golden Gloves Boxing matches over the years and we shared many funny stories. He was also a fixture at Acton Toyota for many years as one of our most dependable runners. He shared many colorful insights on the Pats and the Sox. God Bless Him and the Family. Keep on truckin Smokin.
