Tribute & Message From The Family

Laurence M. Finnegan beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at home in Harvard, Massachusetts on November 9, 2016.

He was born in Newton, Massachusetts, the son of Raymond and Agnes Finnegan.  Larry attended Newton High School, where he met his future wife, Marie Keohane both graduating in 1948.

Larry went on to serve in Korea from 1952-1954 where he was awarded three Bronze Service Stars.  After returning from Korea, he & Marie married in 1955 and soon thereafter moved to San Francisco, where they lived for five years.  Returning from out west they lived in Watertown, Massachusetts.

In 1965 Larry and his business partner co-founded Nauset Engineering, a company that offered pollution control equipment to companies throughout New England.  Later that year he & Marie settled in Harvard, Massachusetts where they both became active members of the community. Larry served as Town Selectman, and was on many committees including the Conservation Commission, The Middle School Building Committee, and was a founding member of the Harvard Conservation Trust. His vision and commitment to land conservation in Town was perhaps his most significant contribution.  He played a leading role working tirelessly on land projects for over 35 years. Larry was a visionary who loved the outdoors, gardening, and was passionate about preserving open space for future generations.

Larry is survived by his wife Marie, his sister Betty Mascia of Stow, his son Steve and his wife Mary of Harvard, their two children Katherine and Conor, Mark and his wife Hilary of Harvard and their three children Mark, Katie, and Michael, Sheila and her husband Tim First of Concord and their two children Andrew and Nick, and Lesley and her husband Nate Shepherd of Stow and their four children Tyler, Will, Sam, and Lily.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Larry on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 3:00-6:00 pm in the Badger Funeral Home 347 King Street, Littleton.

In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts can be made to the Harvard Conservation Trust’s Muller Conservation Collaborative in memory of Larry. Donations to the Muller Collaborative will be matched and used solely for land protection in Harvard. Checks can be made payable to the Harvard Conservation Trust Muller Collaborative and mailed to P.O. Box 31, Harvard MA 01451.

We feel so blessed to have gotten to know Larry and to have heard his great stories of Newton back in the day and the journey out to Harvard and the paths that weave through our shared family histories. We will always cherish our time together a year ago during the holidays sitting by the fire and sharing memories, and some laughs. We appreciated all of his public service to the town of Harvard and we will truly miss his wonderful community spirit and the great love of his family. Larry was truly one of the greats of the Greatest Generation.

From all of us in the Sennott family, we send our thoughts and prayers to the Finnegan family.
