Obituary

Emily May Guyett, age 91, of Harvard, MA passed away on June 20, 2017 at the Edgewood Center in Portsmouth, NH. Her love, kindness, grace and quiet fortitude comforted and inspired all who knew her.

Born in New York City on June 10, 1926, to George Earl and Olive May, Emily spent her child-hood in Larchmont, NY, and Maplewood, NJ. She graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood in 1944, and attended Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA, in 1946. After-wards she completed a medical laboratory technician training certificate program.

Emily worked as a laboratory technician at Clara Maass Hospital in Newark, NJ, during the 1950s, as well as at Clinton Hospital, Clinton, MA, in the 1970s, and the Lahey Clinic of Bur-lington, MA, in the 1980s.

Emily married Clayton Lawrence Guyett, of Massena, NY, on May 7, 1955. They lived in Or-ange and Chatham, NJ, until 1965, then Simsbury, CT, for three years, prior to settling in Har-vard, MA, in 1969.

Emily was an active member of the First Evangelical Congregational Church of Harvard, where she sang in the choir for many years, volunteered for the church floral committee, Loaves and Fishes, and for the Harvard Apple Festival, making pies and soups to support her church commu-nity. She was an avid lover of animals, nature and birds, and enjoyed several cherished dogs and cats. In 1997, Emily returned to school at Worcester State College to take art classes, where she met friends and expanded her skills as an accomplished painter.

Emily is survived by her daughter Amanda Amory and her husband Francis "Tuck" Amory of Worcester, MA, his two children Matthew Amory of Brookline, MA and Sarah Welch of New-ton, MA, and their families; and her daughter Corinne Norris and her husband Greg Norris of Portsmouth, NH, and their sons Mitchell and Nicholas, who were a source of tremendous joy in her life. She is also survived by her sister Nancy Roff of Westfield, NJ, her brother Roger May and his wife Judy, of Morristown, NJ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was prede-ceased by her husband Clayton Guyett (2009) and her brother Donald May (2014) and his wife Betty (2011).

A memorial service will be held at the First Evangelical Congregational Church, 5 Still River Rd, Harvard, MA on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, Emily requested that any donations in her memory be made to The Friends of the Harvard Council on Aging, PO Box 474, Harvard, MA 01451, which provided wonderful support during her last years.
